For those in search of great cell phone deals, AT&T currently offers free 3G compatible phones with the purchase of a 2 year contract. Many of the phones are used, but all of those are refurbished and practically good as new. Contracts start as low as $39.99 per month, but it should be noted that a one-time $36 activation fee is included on the first bill. All the plans appear to include unlimited mobile to mobile nationwide talking, and free shipping is included with all online phone purchases.

Other contract details should be noted. Early termination fees don’t apply in the first 30 days after purchase, but after that AT&T charges an initial $175 termination fee. (This fee is reduced depending on how long the contract has been in effect.) AT&T provides rollover minutes, but unfortunately these expire after the first year, so users are cautioned to be aware of this deadline.

These plans aren’t for everyone, but they are ideal for older users and those who aren’t dying to own a smartphone. The phones offered on these plans are good and reliable, but don’t expect all the latest bells and whistles out there on the market today.

At long last, T-Mobile has begun selling its first LG cell phone. The new LG Sentio is a midrange touchscreen phone built for multimedia use. It can be yours for the affordable price of $69.99 after signing a two-year contract with T-Mobile.

Unfortunately, LG gave the Sentio a resistive touchscreen rather than a capacitive touchscreen. This means that the screen is not quite as responsive as it could have been. Resistive touchscreens also require pressing harder to get them to work. Despite this, the Sentio has several other good features. For instance, it comes with a simple yet thorough interface that proves to be user-friendly. We like that you can add songs to the music player via both an included USB cable and through a microSO card. All the standard features we expect to find in a phone these days are included in the Sentio—calculator, alarm clock, stopwatch, etc. But the phone also includes email, an HTML browser, GPS navigator, an app for interacting with social networking websites, instant messenger, Bluetooth, and a 3.0 megapixel camera. The battery life is long-lasting (approximately 6 hours), and you can download content quickly thanks to the internal 3G support. Again, this is a fairly impressive midrange multimedia phone, but the resistive touchscreen does require some patience.

The internet is abuzz today with rumors that T-Mobile and Apple are on the verge of striking a deal that would make the iPhone 4 available through T-Mobile as early as this September. Cultofmac.com is reporting that the deal has an 80% likelihood of going through. Assuming these rumors are true, this is a huge blow to both AT&T and Verizon. AT&T will be forced to deal with an iPhone service provider that offers much cheaper rates as well as unlimited data plans—something AT&T recently did away with. And Verizon may lose out again on the opportunity to sell the coveted iPhone 4.

There are some technical obstacles that must be overcome in making any iPhone available over T-Mobile or Verizon networks. For instance, the iPhone is a GSM device. T-Mobile already uses a GSM network; meanwhile, Verizon operates via CDMA towers. On the other hand, Verizon and Apple iPhones use standard frequencies while T-Mobile’s 3G network uses non-standard frequencies. Technology gurus say these obstacles are easier to deal with when it comes to T-Mobile as opposed to Verizon, which may explain why Apple appears more willing to strike a deal with T-Mobile. Stay tuned in the coming days and weeks while we continue to cover this story.

Following years of public pressure, Verizon Wireless and AT&T have joined the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA). The WBA promotes free public access to Wi-Fi networks. Cellular phone providers have been hesitant in the past to join the efforts of the WBA, but in recent months have come to realize that Wi-Fi access frees up data usage on 3G and the upcoming 4G networks. AT&T has already set up over 20,000 Wi-Fi hotspots around the country and plans to establish more. This is good news not just for smartphone users, but for also for the carriers because it reduces the amount of complaints they receive. Issues still exist with some smartphones when they access Wi-Fi networks, so hopefully the efforts of the WBA will help fix some of these problems in future smartphones. At the very least, the new partnership with America’s two largest cellular service providers will ensure smoother 3G and 4G access.

AT&T recently announced what will easily be its best Android phone to date. The HTC Aria hits stores on June 20th and is worth $129—after a $100 mail-in rebate—with a 2-year agreement. The Aria only weighs 3.8 ounces. Compact yet powerful, the Aria supports both Wi-Fi and 3G connections. It comes with a 5 megapixel camera and Bluetooth. The HD display has a resolution of 480×320 pixels. Most importantly, the Aria runs on the Android 2.1 operating system. HTC designed the Aria to handle multitasking, and it reported does so quite admirably. This means you can have multiple apps operating at once without any noticeable slowdown. Find a complete selection of accessories for the HTC Aria at discountcell.com

iPhone owners: AT&T has heard your complaints. You will no longer be forced to dish out $30 a month for unlimited data usage that you don’t need. This is also great news for those who have been hesitant about purchasing a smartphone because of the $30 monthly price tag. If you want to own an iPhone, and you don’t send and receive a lot of photos or videos (including streaming), you can end up paying as little as $15 a month for 200 megabytes of data on AT&T’s DataPlus plan. If that’s not enough, subscribe to the DataPro plan and get 10 times more data (2 gigabytes) for just $25. Existing customers can keep their $30 unlimited data plan, but unfortunately it doesn’t appear new customers will have this option. Customers can expect to receive hefty fees for going over their data plans, but AT&T will send warning texts before you reach your limit.

Tethering will soon be available as well for an extra $20 per month. (Tethering is using your smartphone to provide internet connections to other electronic devices, such as your laptop.)

So how will the data plan changes affect AT&T iPhone customers? Typical users will likely save $5 to $15 off their month bill. In fact, AT&T is banking on making up this lost revenue by attracting additional customers. However, for frequent online gamers, those who send and receive lots of pictures, and those who stream more than 1,000 minutes of video per month, the data plan changes will likely make a heavy dent to your pocketbook.

Nokia and T-Mobile are known for providing excellent smartphone deals. Once again, the two companies have paired together to offer customers a great smartphone for a cheap price. After signing a two-year deal and sending in a mail-in rebate, the all new Nokia E73 Mode can be yours for just $69.99. Better yet, the E73 Mode smartphone feels and functions like a phone worth much more than the price tag.

The Nokia E73 Mode features a full QWERTY keyboard. Indeed, this makes it an excellent choice for text messaging pros. Because it’s only 0.4 inches thick, you can carry this lightweight phone around easily in your pockets. The modest 2.4 inch display screen has a resolution of 320×240. Conveniently, Nokia designed the phone to have both a work and personal mode. You can customize the two modes to feature the apps necessary for that mode. In other words, you can keep your games and music player apps separate while at work.

Of course, the E73 Mode has several features you’d expect to find in a smartphone these days. For instance, it comes with a microSD expansion slot and a 5 megapixel camera and LED flash. The camera has an auto focus function and also doubles as a video recording device. Multimedia messaging, conference calling, voice dialing, and an unlimited phone book are other features of this smartphone. The video and music players are compatible with most common media formats.

The internet works quite well on the E73 Mode. Both Wi-Fi and T-Mobile’s 3G networks are available, and websites load quickly over both. Moreover, this smartphone comes with Flash support. You can also have multiple browsing windows open at once. With Ovi Maps, your E73 Mode doubles as a GPS navigation device.

Again, the Nokia E73 Mode is an excellent choice for a smartphone in this economy. Cheap yet fully functional, this is a smartphone for the common man. Hurry and take advantage of this offer before it disappears, and be sure to visit www.discountcell.com for excellent accessory deals for your E73 Mode.
